  • Tucked away beneath the snowy peaks of the Cascade Mountains, amidst tall, lean evergreen trees that line the banks of the Wenatchee River, Leavenworth is a charming little town fit for a fairy tale. Once a small timber community, the rerouting of the Great North Railroad threatened the local economy, prompting Leavenworth to rebrand itself and model the town after a traditional Bavarian village. Today, travelers flock to the tiny mountain town, in part, because no matter the season, there is always plenty to do.
  • In true Bavarian spirit, the town hosts its own Oktoberfest, complete with cold beer, sizzling bratwurst, German folk music, and, of course, lots of lederhosen. During the holiday season, grab a sled and slide down the small hill on Front Street or a warm cup of hot cocoa and take a stroll underneath the glow of the colorful holiday lights. Kris Kringl (a holiday decoration store) and the Nutcracker Museum are open year round, so if you've always wanted to experience "Christmas in July," here is your chance. Often there are tents sent up in Front Street Park showcasing local artists and business owners, but be sure to wander along the line of unique storefronts, which offer everything from hats to pretzels to wood carvings. Over the summer, river rafting / tubing is a great way to cool off and enjoy the warm Eastern Washington sunshine. In the evening, catch a show at Leavenworth Summer Theater's outdoor amphitheater on the local ski hill, which makes for a stunning backdrop.
  • If you prefer the less traveled path, hop off Front Street and into the alpine wilderness. Leavenworth is surrounded by picturesque hikes, such as The Enchantments, world-class climbing and bouldering, and cross-country / downhill skiing. Whether you are looking for a fun-filled summer vacation spot with the whole family or a romantic weekend getaway in a cozy log cabin, Leavenworth does not disappoint.
